Cloud Backup
Microsoft keeps Microsoft 365 running, but it doesn't protect you from deletion, ransomware or human error the way a dedicated backup does. NX Cloud provides independent, restorable backup for your cloud data.
What you get
Independent backup for your Microsoft 365 data
Email backup
Mailboxes backed up independently of Microsoft 365, so deleted or corrupted emails can be restored even after native retention expires.
OneDrive & SharePoint backup
Files and document libraries protected against accidental deletion, corruption or malicious changes, with point-in-time restores available.
Teams data backup
Chats, channel content and files within Teams included in backup coverage, not just the more visible email and file data.
Ransomware recovery
An independent, isolated backup copy that ransomware reaching your live environment can't also reach and encrypt.
Configurable retention
Retention periods set to match your business and compliance needs, rather than relying on Microsoft's default settings alone.
Tested restores
Backups are periodically tested to confirm data can actually be restored, not simply assumed to be working.
How it works
A clear path from day one.
Assess
We review what Microsoft 365 data you hold, current retention settings and where your existing backup gaps sit.
Configure
Backup coverage and retention periods are set up across email, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams to match your needs.
Monitor
Backup jobs are monitored to confirm they're completing successfully, with issues flagged and resolved promptly.
Test & restore
Restores are tested periodically, and available on request whenever you need to recover deleted or corrupted data.
Cloud Backup
Built around the way you work.
There’s a common and costly assumption that because Microsoft 365 lives “in the cloud”, it’s automatically backed up. It isn’t, at least not in the way most businesses need. Microsoft’s responsibility is keeping the service running; protecting your specific data against accidental deletion, malicious action or plain human error sits with you. Cloud Backup from NX Cloud closes that gap with independent, restorable backup you actually control.
This service is part of NX Cloud, NXAPP’s cloud and data service, and works alongside Microsoft 365 Management — administration keeps your tenant well configured, backup protects what’s inside it regardless.
Who this is for
Cloud Backup is relevant to any business running Microsoft 365, particularly where:
- Deleted emails, files or Teams content have previously been difficult or impossible to recover
- Native Microsoft retention settings have never been reviewed or extended
- Ransomware or data loss would be seriously disruptive to operations
- Compliance or contractual obligations require retaining data for a specific period
- Nobody has ever actually tested whether a restore would work
What’s included
We back up the Microsoft 365 data that matters most to daily operations: email, OneDrive, SharePoint document libraries and Teams content, including chats and channel files. Retention periods are configured to match your business rather than left on generic defaults, which matters for both practical recovery needs and any compliance obligations specific to your sector.
Backup copies are held independently of your live Microsoft 365 environment. That separation matters most in a ransomware scenario, where an attack reaching your live data shouldn’t also be able to reach and encrypt your recovery point. For a fuller view of continuity planning beyond Microsoft 365 itself, this connects with IT Disaster Recovery under NX Cyber.
We also test restores periodically. A backup nobody has ever tried to restore from is a hope, not a plan, and we’d rather find a gap during a routine test than during an actual emergency. That habit of testing is what actually separates a working backup from a box that’s simply ticked on a compliance checklist somewhere.
Why NXAPP
Backup is one of those services that’s invisible when it’s working and critical the one time it isn’t. Because Cloud Backup sits within NX Cloud, the same team managing your tenant, file structure and data governance also oversees your backup coverage, so gaps are less likely to appear between separate providers or services.
We won’t tell you a specific recovery time or claim a guarantee we can’t stand behind — what we will do is set backup up properly, monitor it, and make sure it’s actually tested.

FAQs
Questions, answered.
Doesn't Microsoft already back up our Microsoft 365 data?
Microsoft is responsible for keeping the service available, not for protecting your specific data against deletion, ransomware or mistakes made by users. Native retention also has limits and gaps. An independent backup closes that responsibility, giving you control over your own restore points.
How quickly can we restore lost or deleted data?
Restore times depend on what's being recovered and how much data is involved, but the point of independent backup is that recovery doesn't depend on Microsoft's native retention windows, which can expire before a deletion is even noticed.
What happens if ransomware affects our Microsoft 365 environment?
Because backup copies are held independently of your live environment, they aren't exposed to the same ransomware event, giving you a clean point to restore from rather than relying solely on recovery tools built into the affected system.
How long is our data retained in backup?
Retention periods are configured to your business needs rather than relying on a single fixed default, and can reflect compliance, contractual or record-keeping obligations relevant to your particular sector, industry and how long you typically need to look back.
Does this cover Teams chats and channel content, or just files?
Coverage includes Teams chats and channel content alongside email, OneDrive and SharePoint, since conversations and shared files within Teams can be just as important to recover as any formal document, particularly when a conversation records a decision or an agreement.
